Q: My son is 9 years old and has a very small sized penis. What is the right age to start any hormone treatment for a micro penis? What is the right age for carrying out tests to ascertain the deficiencies, if any? Is there any chance for him to have a normal sized penis like his peers?
A:In many children the penis is small at this age but reaches a normal size at puberty, i.e. between the ages of 12-16 years. It may not be appropriate to call this micro penis, which is a specific condition. You may consult a paediatric surgeon in your town to get an evaluation. Certainly, no hormonal assessment needs to be done at this age.
