Does infection cause febrile convulsion?

Q: My 4 years old son had the first febrile convulsion attack when he was just 6 months old. He was suffering from swine flu infection at that time. What could be the reasons for the convulsion attack?

A:Five per cent of children younger than 5 years of age can develop febrile convulsions. In your child’s case, I would classify this as a febrile seizure, provided there was no evidence of infection of the central nervous system. The chance of recurrence of a febrile seizure is high if the child is very young (50% chance if he is younger than one year of age). In your child's case the chance of recurrence is quite low.
