Q: I am a 35 years old male suffering from urinary urgency for last two years. It gets worse during winters. The doctor told me it’s due to calcification of prostate gland and gave me some medicines, which didn’t help at all. Please help.

A:The calcification observed in your prostate indicates chronic prostatitis and this fits in well with your symptoms related to urination. If your other routine tests are normal then you should be reassured that there is unlikely to be a major problem. Prostatitis presents with bothersome symptoms but has been seen to be self restrictive. In order to get support, consult a urologist and he may improve your situation by some medicines to reduce the frequency of urination and also do a periodic prostatic massage. Restriction of beverages particularly coffee and tea may help you.
