Do Inosert and Anxit lead to high BP?

Dr Chandra M Gulhati

Q: I have been prescribed to take antidepressants Inosert 50 mg and Anxit 1 per day. Last month when I checked my BP, it showed 160/136, but ignored it. Yesterday when I checked my BP again, it shows the same. Is this a side effect of medicines I am taking?

A:Inosert is the brand name of a very potent medicine called sertraline. Anxit contains alprazolam. None of these medicines are known to increase blood pressure. In fact they are known to decrease blood pressure in some patients.
