Q: I have been married for the past 10 months. My sperm count is 40.4 million. My wife's scan study is normal. We have consulted a gynaecologist, who said that sperm count normally fluctuates and to try for another six months. We are interested in having a baby now, so what to do? Should my wife go in for a HSG study or do I need any treatment to increase the sperm count?
A:Sperm count, anything above 20 million, is normal. The more important factor is motility which you have not mentioned. If you are so keen, go for IUI but I feel one should not get panicky before one year. Have intercourse on alternate day rather than daily.
