Q: I am a 27 years old woman who had 2 miscarriages last year. Now after 6 months I am trying to conceive again. I have polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) and am taking Dimet 500 mg thrice for the same. I have not got my periods yet for this month; due date was three days back. I am having a little pain in the right side of my lower pelvic area for the last 4 days along with severe lower backache too. I did a blood pregnancy test, which turned out negative. I am very scared that it could be ectopic pregnancy. Can it be ectopic even after the negative result? What could be the cause of the pain?

A:Usually the pregnancy test is positive even in cases of ectopic pregnancy. However, in cases of ruptured ectopic pregnancy, and an old chronic ectopic it can be negative. Please consult an experienced gynaecologist for complete evaluation.
