Do children get allergic rhinitis?

Q: I have a kid who is one year and 7 months old. He is often affected by cold and whenever he gets cold thick mucous like liquid starts building up. And when we go to the doctor they advice us to medicate him with Mucoline Expectorant for 5 days. After that it might come down but immediately after 20 days or a month duration he will get infected once again. Is there any good remedy for this? Why does he get affected so often? Is there any home medicine which does not have any side effects so that I can prevent him from getting affected by cold?
A:Your child seems to be suffering from allergic rhinitis and gets repeated colds. It is not because of any infection. He just needs extra liquids during this time and some antihistamine syrup like cetrizine. You may consult your doctor for its dose according to his weight. There is no way we can permanently take away this problem. This may get better as he grows.
