Q: My father had a kidney transplant 3 years back from an unrelated well-wisher aged 67 years. He had a angioplasty done and stents fixed 1 year back. Is the heart problem due to Cyclosporin (Neoral)? What is the south Indian diet you recommend?
A:I hope the status of the heart at the time of kidney transplant was assessed. Many patients with kidney failure have coronary heart disease. The lipids need to aggressively lowered after transplantation. The diet should be without saturated fats and more of polyunsaturated fats.
