Q: For the last 8 to 10 years, I have occassionally developed ulcerations in my mouth, specially on the gum or on the tip of the tongue or on the sides of the tongue. I have taken lots of vitamins but they have not helped. The ulcers grow and then become severe after three to four weeks then again every thing becomes normal. During these periods, it is very painful even to talk and eat. My teeth are deformed. During my childhood (20 years ago) I had epilepsy, now I am normal. During that period, I have taken lots sleeping pills. Now, I take hexigel ointment whenever the ulcers grow within my mouth. Kindly advice , how can I stop these ulcers.

A:Get routine scaling done. It removes the bacteria and plaque and helps keep the pH of the mouth normal. Do soda bicarbonate mouth washes. If ulcers still continue then hexigel will provide temporary symptomatic relief. If problem still continues see a gastroenterologist.
