Q: Why do I sometimes get cramps in my stomach for some time after I eat something. I have a hiatus hernia and hyperacidity.Though I have been treated aggressively with H-2 receptor antagonists but there has been hardly any relief.
A:Cramps after meals can be due to several causes. Some important ones are:peptic ulcer disease, gallbladder disease, food allergy, lactose intoleranceand intestinal angina or ischemia of the small intestine. For detailedworkup of some of these conditions, you should be seen by an expert, preferably a gastroenterologist.
