Can slip disc affect my sexual life?

Q: I have a problem of slip disc (disc prolapse) on my right side. I am a 26 year old male, working as a software engineer. I met an orthopaedic specialist and got some injection in my back. Since then I am doing some back bending exerises and I am okay. Some times I am facing little weakness in my right leg. Will it affect my sexual life?
A:In disc prolapse, the backward bulge of the intervertebral disc compresses nerves travelling to the lower limbs, urinary bladder and rectum.Mild to moderate compression causes pain; loss of sensation in the feet, legs or thighs; weakness of muscles in the feet or legs. It is only when the compression is very severe and paralyses nerves going to the urinary bladder, rectum and their sphincters that there may be difficulty in erection of the penis and ejaculation. It is best that you consult the surgeon who is looking after you regarding the possible ill-effects of surgery.
