Q: I am 71 years of age and have undergone TURP last September. The gland was 33 gms before the procedure. Biopsy reports were normal, indicating no malignancy or prostatitis/infection. I have no complaints now. However, I am curious to know if I can develop BPH once again? Are there any steps that I may take to ensure that there is no recurrence of the hypertrophy?
A:Prostate hypertrophy does not usually recur. You may need to repeat cystoscopy for other reasons like stricture or bladder neck contracture. This happens in 2-3% of the cases. You don't have to do anything to prevent it.
