Q: My 66 years old father is suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and we are planning for a knee replacement surgery for him because he cannot even stand with support. He has too much pain in his knees, which are always swollen. Can he go for a knee replacement surgery? If yes, please suggest some good knee replacement hospitals. What is the expected cost for the same?

A:Getting knee replacement seems to be the right decision. It is possible to do it in rheumatoid patients, but his rheumatoid has to be under control by a rheumatologist, before surgery is undertaken. Good hospitals are in Delhi and Mumbai. The approximate cost of these operations could be as high as 2 lakhs for one knee.
