Can IViG be safely administered to my wife?

Dr Geeta Chadha

Q: My wife has a problem of multiple abortions of unknown causes. All the tests including phospholipid profile are normal. She has conceived again and the ultrasound report shows that the fetal pole, -pulsation and the sac is normal. The doctor is planning to give her immunoglobin IV. Can this be used under such circumstances? Will it be safe for her to undergo such treatment? What will be the dosage? She weighs 55 kg.

A:IViG is an empirical therapy, which doesn't have the evidence supporting its use, however, being a human product it does have side effects. Still many clinicians use it after exhausting other measures.
