Q: My wife got beta HCG levels - 730 checked at 4-5 weeks of pregnancy. Her doctor advised her for TSH, The levels were - 6.95 (out of range). Now her doctor has told her to take Ebexid for thyroid but we consulted another doctor who said we should avoid it. Please suggest.
A:It is advisable to get a T3, T4, TSH estimated again and in the meanwhile start with Tab Thyroxin 25 mcg per day (empty stomach) till you get the report of the fresh T3, T4, TSH. In pregnancy, TSH levels are best maintained on the lower side of the normal. Ebexid is not a tablet to be taken during pregnancy because it also has oil soluble vitamine E which is best avoided in the first 3 months of pregnancy.
