Q: I am a 27 years old woman having polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which was detected 4 years back. The doctor has advised me to take Diane 35, which I have been taking since last 4 months. My weight is 58 kg and height is 164 cm. Also, since I am on Diane 35, I had unprotected sex last month, but the hymen didn't tear and during my first internal check-up the gynaecologist told me that I have an intact hymen. Does it affect the chances of pregnancy?
A:You cannot get pregnant if you have an intact hymen and are not having coitus. As for the PCOS, you will need to take the Diane till the menses are regular, and you also need to lose weight. Chances for pregnancy are even better if you take ovulation inducing drugs, but for that you have to plan to be with the husband and follow up with a infertility specialist for monitoring egg formation as well as ovulation timing by ultrasound scanning.
