Can hypothyroidism create problems for the fetus?

Dr Sujeet Jha

Q: I am suffering from hypothyroidism for the past five years. I am 22 years of age and pregnant at present. I am worried about the consequences of my disease on the fetus. Please suggest.

A:Hypothyroidism in pregnant women has several consequences to baby and mother. But if hypothyroidism is treated properly than the there should not be a problem. We replace almost similar hormones what you lack, as long as your blood test (TSH) is being monitored regularly then you should not have problems.
