Can DHA supplements improve my child's concentration?

Q: My 14-year-old daughter is having a great difficulty in learning mathematics and remembering its basics. Her parents have a good academic record, especially in mathematics. Can DHA supplements improve her concentration? If yes, what are the brands available in Kerala/India?

A:DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) supplements are indicated in the treatment of high triglyceride levels in patients at particular risk of coronary heart disease. They have no known role in improving concentration. I suggest that a proper diagnosis be made before administering medicines. If the child has only problem in learning mathematics but not other subjects, it is not a case fit for medication.
