Q: My 23 years old wife had a 30 mm simple cyst as per the sonography of pelvis (uterus) report. The doctor said that the cyst may get washed away during her next periods, which occurred soon after. On rechecking after five days via sonography no sign of the cyst was found. Is this possible?
A:This is absolutely possible. Every month when the ovum (egg) grows it is in a follicle (cyst) roughly 20-25 mm in size which ruptures and releases the egg. It is perfectly possible to have cysts with clear fluid up to 5-8 cm in size - these are called physiological cysts and can disappear on their own without any treatment.
