Q: I am a 45 years old female suffering from acute renal failure (ARF). How can my creatinine levels be reduced? Is dialysis the only treatment option for ARF? Is ARF reversible?
A:There is no drug by which one can reduce creatinine. In fact, serum creatinine is an indirect measure of kidney function and it comes down on its own if kidney function improves. In acute renal failure, the kidney failure is reversible and takes usually 4 to 6 weeks to recover. Till the recovery occurs, a patient might require dialysis depending on signs and symptoms in the patient.
