Can a person with pulmonary tuberculosis have sex?

Q: I have minimal pulmonary tuberculosis and currently undergoing medical treatment for about a month. My doctor said that I am not infectious to other people. Is it safe to have sex with my partner while undergoing treatment for this? Does taking anti-tuberculosis drugs create any sexual problem?

A:Even if a person has tuberculosis, which is sputum positive, the person becomes non infectious after 2-6 weeks of treatment. This is based on the assumption that the disease is caused by bacteria fully sensitive to the regular drugs. In your case if you are better clinically and on X-ray you should not worry about transmitting the disease to your partner. There are no sexual problems due to the anti tubercular drugs.
