Q: I am a 40 years old man having diabetes from last year. I am taking half tablet of Diamicron MR-30 in the morning, which keeps my sugar in control. If I fast for 36 hours (two nights and one day) and don't even take medication, what will happen?

A:You can remain without food for 36 hours once and not continuously; hence, you have to take medicine to control blood sugar. A diabetic should not keep fast, as body will start using fat for energy, this can create problem for a diabetic (and lead to keto-acidosis: a serious complication).
