Q: We have a 2.5 year old son who was born after six years of marriage. My wife breast fed him for about a year. She has breast secretions even now. What should we do?

A:Some breast discharge can persist long after nursing is stopped. Things to do would be to stop any kind of stimulation.I would also like to know if there are any hormonal problems. Is she having regular periods? I would also recommend a blood test called Prolactin level. If her periods are regular, and prolactin level is normal, and the TSH is normal I would thind that her hormones are likely okay. You may want the secretions sent for pathology to rule out any cancerous cells. It would also be pertinent to know what kind of birth control is she on.
