Q: My daughter, who is a month old, has a birth mark on her forehead. It is pinkish in colour and extends from the eye to head. I want to know if there is any chance of it going away on its own, or can I get plastic surgery done? I also want to know what is the earliest age suitable for plastic surgery for that mark. She also squints slightly sometimes and I read on the net that some babies squint in early months and get well later! Is it true and if not, how can it be treated? I will be thankful for your advice.
A:Birth marks are common. If it only a colour difference, you may not need to do very much. Later in life, cosmetics will camouflage the mark. Have it reviewed when the baby is about 5yrs old. Apparent squints are common in less than 1 yr olds. Wait till she is one. In any case, your paediatrician will keep it under observation.
