Are weight training exercises harmful for the bones?

Q: I read an article that when one takes heavy weight training for a specific part of the body, the bones in that part of the body will depreciate gradually. Is this true? If yes, then what is the use of a weight-training programme?
A:On the very contrary, weight training/resistance training/muscle strengthening exercises help not only build/strengthen muscle but also have a beneficial effect on the bones, connective tissues like ligaments, cartilage etc. If not done correctly, there is a high risk of injury. So go ahead and add that to part of workout schedule using the right guidelines. For example, gradually start with lighter weights, use correct form, keep 48 hours between working the same muscle group and work bigger groups before smaller muscles so that they don't tire.
