Are there any import restrictions on non-commercial drugs?

Q: I need to send a non-prescription, over the counter anti-diarrhoeal medicine to my mother in India from USA. I am living in USA on a work permit. Are there any import regulations in India, or export rules in USA that I may be violating? The total value of the medicines is USD $22.
