Are sesame seeds good for osteoporosis?
Q: My mother is suffering from osteoporosis and is on medication. I read in an article that white sesame seeds have a lot of calcium. I advised my mother to take a tea spoon of it daily. Am I right in advising her on this?
A:I will agree with you that sesame seeds are a good source of calcium, iron, magnesium and phosphorus, and a very good source of copper and manganese. They are also very low in cholesterol and sodium but I am not sure how you can consume enough sesame seeds every single day to meet your daily requirements. I would rather suggest taking a calcium supplement. Please speak to her doctor and see if he can suggest a supplement for her.
