Q: I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. My ESR is 122 and Rh factor is positive. I have already consulted rheumatologist. Will my ribs be also affected by this disease, as I have pain in my right rib? Will there be any problem in conceiving after completing a course of methotrexate?
A:Ribs are not affected in rheumatoid arthritis. The cause of lateral chest pain should be discussed with your rheumatologist. One should not conceive while taking methotrexate as it can affect the development of the foetus (baby in uterus). Once can plan to conceive and complete the family after it has been discontinued for 2-3 months. This issue also needs to be discussed with the rheumatologist.
