Are cysts in the spleen harmful?

Dr BS Anand
Gastroenterologist,
Houston, USA

Q: I had a T-scan done to detect gall stones. However, I was told that there are cysts in the spleen. What does this imply? What is the treatment?

A:In general, cysts in the spleen do not cause any problem. If you do not have any symptoms (pain or discomfort), nothing more needs to be done. However, further work up will be required if you are symptomatic.
