Am I on right treatment for seizures?

Dr Monica Mahajan
Associate Director,
Internal Medicine,
Max Hospital, New Delhi

Q: My 51 years old mother is suffering from viral encephalitis for the last five months. The doctor recommended these medicines - Levipil (1000mg), Fresium (10mg) and Forcan. Will these medicines prevent seizures?

A:Levepil and Fresium are being given to prevent seizures and should be able to control seizures in most situations. However, if a patient gets seizure despite being on these medications, an EEG would need to be done to monitor the type of seizures. Forcan is an antifungal - check with your doctor how long that needs to continue.
