Air travel with a newborn

Q: Recently my wife delivered a baby girl. Both are in good condition. When is it safe to travel with a baby? I live in USA and currently both my wife and baby are in India. I wanted to know how soon they can travel to USA and join me? Considering the fact that it takes almost 22 hours to reach by plane to USA and it includes two legs of 9 hrs flights and 4/5 hours of stopover in between.

A:Anytime after 2-4 weeks is safe provided there are no other problems. Duration of flight is of no concern provided the babys needs are looked after. The baby usually will cry and be upset during take off and landing because of pressure changes in the ear. Crying helps in equalising that.
