An Indian-origin doctor has broken all previous records, as he is set to become the UK's youngest physician. Arpan Doshi, who did his graduation in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from University of Sheffield, will be starting work as a junior doctor next month. He will beat the previous record by seventeen days. "I didn't realise I was the youngest person to qualify until a friend checked on the internet. I haven't even told my parents yet but I know they will be very proud," says the new record holder.

Originally from Gandhinagar in Gujarat he shifted to France with his family after his father was offered a job. He continued his education at an English-speaking school, but on realising he was already familiar with what was being taught, so he jumped a year altogether. "The following year I realised that I already knew a lot of what was being taught so I skipped a year," he recalls.

A few weeks after his 17th birthday, he started applying to different universities, and was offered a place at three of them. The University of Sheffield, clearly impressed with his credentials they gave him a scholarship worth 13,000 pounds to fund his education. Even after this, he took part-time jobs to help himself.

"My dream is to become a heart surgeon but it is a very competitive field. It is not really a surprise I have ended up as a doctor," said Doshi.

He'll start his training as a junior doctor at York Teaching Hospital in August, beating the record of Rachael Faye Hill, who received her medical degree from Manchester University when she was 21 and 352 days in 2010 compared to his age (21 and 335 days) when he received his degree.
