Swine Flu On the Rise; Will There Be Another Epidemic? Home Remedies For Swine Flu

There have been various reported cases of the H1N1 flu in Mumbai recently. There have been 3 deaths due to this threatening disease. This flu is also commonly known as the swine flu. Initially the individuals who caught the disease had direct contact with pigs, but the new virus has spread among the people who haven't been exposed to pigs. In 2009 the cases of swine flu were expanding at an abnormal rate and the World Health Organization (WTO) even called it a pandemic.

Since then the cases reported have been decreased, but the flu is spreading around Mumbai and there have been 3 deaths reported in the past 15 days. Last year around this time there were no cases reported of the flu. Whereas there's already 117 cases reported according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The BMC also gave out precautionary measures. The patients suffering from the flu are required to stay in the isolation of their homes, and follow basic ethics of covering their mouth while coughing. Even 690 pregnant women have been vaccinated in the areas prone to the flu against H1N1 for precaution.

According to the Indian Express the first death was of a 74-year-old Parkinson's patient was suffering from fever and cough for a week. He passed away on Tuesday due to acute respiratory syndrome and H1N1 infection. The second case was of a 75-year-old Andheri West resident who suffered from uncontrolled diabetes, hypertension and heart ailment that worsened his condition. The third death was also reported from Andheri, from Gundavali Hill. A 63-year-old man passed away on June 7. According to his family, he had travelled to Devgad and Sindhudurg region and fallen ill shortly after returning home.

A survey was carried out in these areas where the deaths were reported "We covered 1,680 houses and a population of 8,246 people. Since January 1, 690 pregnant women have been vaccinated against H1N1 as precaution,"according to the Dr Minni Khetarpal, Deputy Executive Health Officer BMC. Healthcare workers, pregnant women and those with diabetes and hypertension fall in the high risk category of catching this infection according to the BMC officer.

There have been 1,315 H1N1 cases this year already with 240 people losing lives. In 2015, Mumbai recorded 3,029 H1N1 cases and 52 deaths. The epidemic slowed down in 2016 with only 3 cases and no deaths.
