Sore Throat? Follow These Natural Remedies

A sore throat is commonly associated with pain, itchiness and irritation in the throat. Many times the pain escalates if we swallow a drink or food. There are various reasons why we can get a sore throat, from changing weather to smoking. Throat pain is the main symptom of a sore throat. Here are a few tricks to cure throat pain at home. If the pain lasts for more than a week, then it is recommended to visit your doctor as soon as possible.

1) Honey

It is a commonly used home remedy and is highly effective to cure a sore throat. This is because it is infused with healing and soothing properties. It can be consumed either with tea or just by itself. Add 1-1.5 teaspoons of honey to your regular tea or consume directly.

2) Apple Cider

Its anti bacterial properties help to cure infection. Due to its acidic nature the mucus which gets accumulated in the throat is broken down which prevents the bacteria from spreading even further. Dilute 1-2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in warm water and drink approximately twice a day for best results.

3) Peppermint

Peppermint oils have anti inflammatory, anti viral and anti bacterial properties. This is very helpful to get rid of a sore throat quickly. The peppermint oil should not be consumed directly. You can mix it in warm water or add it to tea. You can even create a steam pot and add the oil to it. Just add 3-4 drops pf the oil in the steam.

4) Chamomile tea

It is one of the oldest known remedies to cure a sore throat. According to an article from Molecular Medicine Reports it acts as a lubricant which helps to avoid dryness that causes irritation in the throat. Is it also anti inflammatory in nature which helps to reduce swelling and redness of the throat.

5) Salt water gargle

It acts as an anti inflammatory agent and reduces the swelling and kills the bacteria present in the throat which is causing the soreness. Gargling with warm water helps to sooth the throat. Mix half a tea spoon of salt in lukewarm water and gargle for approximately 10-15 minutes. Repeat at least twice a day.

6) Ginger

It is not uncommon to add ginger to one's tea. In addition to the added flavor its anti inflammatory properties helps to kill the infection causing bacteria. Ginger tea also helps to flush out toxins from your body and boosts your blood circulation. This is also one the oldest remedies to cure a sore.
