Q: My 36 years old wife recently had a neurosurgery and to relieve the pain, the doctor has prescribed her two medicines- Buta-proxyvon for 3 days (twice each day) and Pregalin 75 is to be continued till pain subsides, in dose of 150 mg per day. My wife breast-feeds my child. Is it safe for the child if a breast-feeding mother takes buta-proxyvon and Pregalin 75?

A:Buta-Proxyvon (diclofenac + propoxyphene + paracetamol) can be taken for short duration during breast-feeding. Pregalin (pregabalin) when given to breast-feeding animals is excreted in milk. It is not known if the same problem arises when given to human. Hence it should be avoided in women during breast-feeding. Since it was taken for a very short period, hopefully it would not have any adverse effect on the baby.
