What are IV gamma globulins?

Q: What are IV gamma globulins? Are they easily available in India and do they require any special care while transfusion?

A:IV stands for intravenous - the route of administration. Certain immunoglobulins are to be administered by IM (intramuscular) route only. Since these are blood products, patients with atypical reactions to blood products need to be specially cared for. Gamma globulins are of many types, specific against certain diseases (such as rabies, anti-D etc) and normal.
