Can Primosa and Carofit be taken to treat atopic dermatitis?

Q: I have atopic dermatitis. I consulted a dermatologist who recommended Primosa and Carofit Tablets once daily. Is Primosa the right tablet to take?

A:Both Primosa and Carofit are not indicated as specific treatments of atopic dermatitis but these are general products. Carofit is claimed to be an antioxidant product extracted from plant carotenoids. Its usefulness specifically in atopic dermatitis is not established. Primrosa is a brand name of a product that contains evening primrose oil, vitamin D and calcium. This is an irrational combination not available in any advanced country. Commercial companies marketing evening primrose oil (EPO) claim that it reduces itch due to atopic dermatitis and eczema. However scientific evidence in support of such claims is lacking. Its side effect includes stomach upset, headache and precipitation of latent epilepsy. The government drug regulator does not approve Primosa and Carofit for treatment of atopic dermatitis.
