Involuntarily flickering of the eye
Q: I am a software engineer and have been experiencing a problem in my right eye over the last few months. I presume the reason to be an over-exposure to computer monitors. There is involuntarily flickering of the eye at times. It also happens when I am having cold and sneezing badly. I also do not get adequate rest as I am working from 9 am to 8 pm at night. Please advise.
A:Involuntary flickering which you experience is "Twitching" of the eyelids and not of the eyeball. These are actually fasciculations of some muscle fibres in the eye lids. This is extremely common and most people experience it at some point of time. These are almost always self-limiting, stop spontaneously and have no harmful consequences. Stress like working very long hours on the computer or lack of sleep can certainly trigger off these twitchings. Adequate rest will certainly help in your case.
