How to get off from an addiction to anti-depressants?

Q: How can I help my friend to deal with depression? She has been on medication for depression (Dothep) for the past 2 years and is now desperately trying to get off it. She struggles with negative emotions and thoughts when she tries to get off it. Her doctor says that there is not enough serotonin production. She is upset that she can't get off the medication. She wants to live a normal life like she used to before. She feels she is trapped with the medication.

A:Unfortunately nearly all anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs have addictive, habit forming potential. The only way to get rid of the habit forming medicines is to gradually decrease the dose every 1-2 weeks (say by 25mg) and taper off over 2-3 months. Simultaneously one should employ non-drug means such as Yoga. With will power and determination every thing is possible.
