Can a nursing mother take Clonotril and Levipil?

Q. My 24 years old wife has epilepsy for the past 4 years and she is taking Levipil 500 mg four times daily and half tablet of Clonotril. She has delivered a baby recently. Are there any side effects of these medicines? She is breastfeeding the baby. Please suggest.
A.  Both Clonotril (clonazepam) and Levipil (levetiracetam) are strictly prohibited for use by breast-feeding mothers since both these drugs are excreted in human breast milk and adversely affect the baby. Please consult your doctor for alternative medication.
