Why have I been prescribed Clofranil and Flotral?

Q: I am a 33 years old male and have been prescribed to take a combination of Clofranil (clomipramine) 25 mg and Flotral (10mg). Can Clofranil be taken without Flotral? For what is Paxil prescribed? Can Paxil (25mg) be substituted for Clofranil (25mg)?

A:Clofranil (clomipramine) and Paxil (paroxetine) are used in the treatment of depression. They are different medicines and hence not interchangeable. Flotral (alfuzosin) is an altogether different medicine. It is used in prostate enlargement in males.
