Dr Doshi is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai. He did his M.B.B.S. from Smt. N.H.L. Mun. Med. College, Ahmedabad, India and then M.S. (Gen. Surg.) from Sheth K.M. School of P.G. Medicine & Research, Ahmedabad, India, He has also done MCh. (Neurosurg.) from T.N. Medical College, Bombay, India.
During his tenure in Neurosurgery in India, he gained vast experience in various aspects of neurosurgery and assisted, performed and supervised large no. of Neurosurgical operations. These include cases of head trauma, brain tumors, spinal surgeries, vascular neurosurgeries, paediatric neurosurgeries, etc.
In England, he worked as a clinical fellow with Prof. Thomas, where he was actively associated with Stereotaxy and Functional Neurosurgery program, including research activities. Dr Doshi gained experience in epilepsy surgery from the Maudsley Hospital and thereafter moved on to New Castle upon Tyne to continue gaining experience in general Neurosurgery. To continue his further interest in movement disorder surgeries, he visited Dr Marwan Hariz and Prof. A. Bosch in Umea and Amsterdam respectively to train himself for performing pallidotomies.
In India Dr P Doshi has set up a Functional Neurosurgery Department at the Jaslok Hospital and Research Center, Mumbai. He has dedicate myself entirely to Functional Neurosurgical work. He performs epilepsy surgeries, movement disorder surgeries and surgery for chronic pain and spasticity. He is in the process of setting up a psychosurgical program for psychiatric disorders. He and his team perform a wide spectrum of movement disorder surgeries including thalamotomy, pallidotomy, subthalamic nucleus lesioning and deep brain stimulation. They have performed 130 movement disorder surgeries, including 49 cases of DBS, out of which 45 cases are bilateral STN stimulation for Parkinson’s disease.
