Gutka addiction
Q: I am addicted to Manikchand and desperately want to give it up. I am having white patches in my mouth and fear about oral cancer. Please guide me how to stop it and if some substitute is available to get over the craving.
A:The addictive ingredient in (Manikchand) gutka is nicotine - just like cigarettes. Stopping gutka is like stopping smoking - you must have a resolve and commitment and consider behaviour changes. Substitute candy or chewing gum. Do not have any gutka in your pockets or at home. If your spouse/friends use it ask her/them to quit with you. Avoid situations where you are more likely to use. Quit at once not in stages.
