Health and Elections
DoctorNDTV conducted a survey to find out, which political party people would vote for with regard to the health policies adopted by them. The results reveal that the predominant (91%) choice was the party that would empower the central government rather than the states to implement health activities. Also, a majority (86%) of the participants were in favour of a party that promised universal high quality health care funded by the government. An almost equal proportion of people (83%) said that they would vote for a party that promotes health insurance by providing health tokens to the poor and tax breaks to the middle class and improves the state of medical colleges and the quality of medical education. About 66% of the responders stated that they supported a party that is committed to reducing private spending on health from the present 80% to 20% while three fourths were inclined towards a party committed to developing a strong private-public partnership outsourcing the overflow from the public to the private sector. As expected, a very small proportion of the Indian public felt that they would vote for a party that did not include a health policy in its manifesto thinking that there are other more important issues than health.
