Politics of health

DoctorNDTV conducted a survey to find out whether or not people felt that politicians should continue to interfere so much with healthcare delivery in India. Almost all the respondents (94%) were of their opinion that politicians should be removed from all selection committees formed for appointing doctors and they should not be allowed (85%) to appoint doctors to different healthcare institutions like the Medical Council of India, AIIMS etc. In fact 70% felt that politicians should be kept out of all aspects of healthcare management. The participants' opinions were divided equally on whether health should become a central or a state government responsibility and whether politicians should decide on allocating money for various healthcare facilities.
