Accrediting health institutions

The President of Medical Council of India (MCI) has been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe to grant recognition to a medical college. Similar cases of bribing to get the recognition and fee hikes by medical institutions seem to be widely prevalent. Many people believe that there is now an urgent need to overhaul the MCI.

It is probably very useful, as it happens in other countries like the UK (General Medical Council) to have a single controlling body, which can perform regulatory functions as well as assess and accredit medical and health institutions across the country.
