Is it safe to give Cremaffin to our child?

Q: My 19-month-old son has severe constipation for the past several months. He is being given Duphalac syrup 12 ml twice daily. The dosage was gradually increased from 5 ml to 12 ml. But it did not help. Now the paediatrician has prescribed Cremaffin syrup - 5 ml daily. Is it safe for our child to consume this? Is it OK to give Duphalac 25 ml every day? What are the other alternatives?

A:Cremaffin can be given at the proper dose for a child of 19 months. There is no need to give two drugs. Efforts should be made to find out the cause of the severe constipation.
