Do I need drugs to conceive if I have PCOS?

Q: I have polycystic ovaries and take the contraceptive pill Microgynon in order to thicken the lining of my ovaries and have regular periods. My partner and I are considering trying for a baby and I was wondering if it is safe to just stop taking the pills and trying. My gynaecologist said that I have plenty of eggs but they are suspended and I may need some form of medication to help them drop otherwise it may just happen naturally. What is your advice?

A:Some females suffering from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) conceive without any medication while others need medicines. You can try for 3-4 cycles. Needless to say that you will need to stop oral contraceptive pill immediately. Please also keep in mind that after prolonged use of an OC pill, sometimes it takes 2-3 cycles before a person conceives even when there is no PCOS.
