Q. My father is bed ridden from the last 2 months. He was suffering from radicular pain in both his hands & neck. After getting a check up done I came to know that he is suffering from cervical spondylosis and some collection of pus on the back of neck spinal cord i.e. TB of the spine. The MRI has shown this but tests like IgG, IgM, IgA are negative. The doctor advised us to use traction and take complete bed rest. Infact after 2 months he has been feeling better but the doctor has advised to continue the same for 45 days more. He is taking combunex 1200 mg, PZA 1250 mg, Streptomycin 0.75 mg, Phospholipe, OF 200 and Pantodac 40. You are requested to reply whether these medicines are ok or not?

A.  The correct treatment for spinal tuberculosis would be to give Rifampicin, INH, Ethambutol and Pyrazinamide in proper doses for at least three months and then discontinue Pyrazinamide to complete a total of 18 months treatment with the rest.
