What is better for skipping - hard concrete surface or the grass?

Q: I am 45 years old, 5.8 tall, weighing 61 kgs. I do brisk walking early in the morning for some time on a daily basis. I want to add rope skipping now. May I do it on hard concrete surface or shall I do it on grass (which is also quite hard)? I wear sneakers with soft soles during exercise. I sometimes suffer from both lower and upper back pain but not always.

A:I would not suggest skipping either on a hard or soft surface, especially since you are not accustomed to it. I guess you would like to increase your stamina, there are other ways you can do it. Intersperse your brisk walk with a slight jog, on a mud track, if possible. Maybe you can alternate your walk with a newer activity like cycling.
